CLIMATIC AND SEISMIC ACTION DEFINITION WITH CONSTEEL

Wind, snow, and seismic loads are among the most error-prone parts of structural modeling, small mistakes in load case setup, direction consideration, or standard parameter evaluation can quietly undermine an otherwise correct design. This training shows how to define these actions in Consteel following standard Eurocode-based procedures (EN 1991-1-3, EN 1991-1-4, EN 1998-1) and combine them correctly. It also gives a first look at CFD-based wind load simulation with the FALCON plugin.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

How to generate snow load cases in Consteel per EN 1991-1-3 for different roof shapes, directly from Eurocode parameters
How to define wind loads for multiple directions per EN 1991-1-4 for different roof shapes
How to define masses and apply seismic actions per EN 1998-1, and integrate them as load cases
Explore the different calculation methods to apply the seismic effects,d such as the CQC summation of all modes, the linear summation of selected modes, or the consideration of a single dominant mode
How Consteel builds ultimate and serviceability combinations from climatic and seismic load cases according to EN 1990’s combination rules, including relevant partial and combination factors
A first look at CFD-based wind load simulation with the FALCON plugin, and how it compares to standard-based wind loads for non-standard geometries

Get to Know Your Trainer

Development Engineer

As a structural engineer, he developed a strong passion for parametric design methods and had the opportunity to work on several intriguing projects. Throughout this time, he encountered the common challenge of evaluating wind loads on complex, non-standard buildings. This experience sparked his interest in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and its application in structural engineering, which led to a shift toward research and later became the focus of his PhD studies.

He now works as a developer on Pangolin and FALCON, where he combines engineering insight with advanced computational tools to push the boundaries of structural design.
