USE FALCON TO SIMPLIFY YOUR NEXT PROJECT’S WIND LOAD EVALUATION
FALCON (Fluid-dynamics Aided Loads in Consteel) is a universal wind load-generation tool powered by fluid dynamics simulation. It helps structural engineers determine realistic wind loads for any building type aligned with design standards.
FALCON focuses on the interpretation of the results, instead of a comprehensive simulation tool, that requires considerable expertise in fluid dynamics, FALCON builds on the logic of engineers’ wind load assessment and gives users more flexibility to apply their insights.
FALCON works exclusively within the Consteel environment.
features
METEOROLOGICAL EFFECTS DEFINITION
Consteel automatically generates wind profiles and gathers all necessary parameters for evaluating wind and snow load intensities, based on familiar standard-specific inputs.
Both FALCON and the Meteorological Load Generator rely on this same method to create and apply meteorological loads to your building automatically.
WIND PRESSURE SIMULATION
FALCON automatically compiles all required data to easily carry out your simulations for multiple desired wind directions, based on the defined wind effects, the surface-modeled geometry of the examined building and its surroundings and specific simulation settings:
– Creates the mesh of the building and the calculation domain
– Uses the standard specific wind profile to define inlet conditions
– Sets the boundary conditions and the controls of the numerical calculations
FALCON is using OpenFOAM® (Open Field Operation And Manipulation), an open-source C++ toolkit to perform steady state simulations to obtain quasi-static loads.
WIND LOAD GENERATION ON ZONES
FALCON’s key feature is the automatic generation of wind loads based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation results.
Engineers can choose to apply simulation results directly from the calculation mesh or adopt conservative approaches to produce zoned loads aligned with standard procedures. This unique solution also enables the creation of categorized wind loads by automatically identifying windward, leeward, side walls, and roofs, and applying validated default settings. This ensures consistency with design standards while giving engineers greater control and confidence in their design decisions.
