How Consteel works?

Designing steel halls involves complex structural challenges such as slender members, load eccentricities, and secondary stabilizing systems.

Consteel Hall Edition simplifies this process with its advanced finite element model (7 DOF) and the General Method, combining second-order and buckling analysis for realistic, code-compliant design results.
Using a special finite element developed specifically for thin-walled open steel cross-sections, Consteel effectively handles complex tasks such as global buckling verification of slender tapered members, load eccentricities, elastic lateral restraints, stabilization through secondary structures and roof systems.
Consteel handles both standard and non-standard structures seamlessly in 3D, enabling precise and flexible customization for unique design requirements.

Advanced structural analysis

Consteel’s 7 DOF finite element captures real structural behavior, including second-order effects, imperfections, and load or support eccentricities. Global buckling analysis calculates critical loads and modes, covering flexural, torsional, and lateral-torsional buckling, and feeds directly into automatic design.
Buckling sensitivity analysis identifies critical members and slenderness values without manual input, while the Overall Imperfection Method applies realistic imperfection amplitudes consistent with reduction factor methods. Frame corners and kinematic constraints are automatically considered, and immersive visualization shows true deformations, giving a clear view of structural performance.
Consteel’s specialized finite element accurately represents tapered and slender members, capturing real-world effects like buckling, load eccentricities, and secondary systems that conventional tools often simplify. Nonstandard geometries and variable cross sections are handled with ease.
Purlins can be modeled as integrated parts of the global structure, including their support stiffness and stabilizing influence on frames.
Standard connections can be placed directly in the model, automatically transferring all relevant loads to the connection design module with no manual input needed.
Work effortlessly across platforms. Import models from Tekla Structures or through formats like IFC, XLSX, or Consteel’s purpose-built SMADSteel for steel design.
Export to IFC, Tekla Structures, or DXF when your project moves forward. Handle connection design right in Consteel for standard connections, or take it further with IDEA StatiCa for unique details.
Consteel’s design calculations are based on Eurocode 3, ensuring compliance with the most widely used European standard for steel structures.
To expand its capabilities, a dedicated pilot project is underway to introduce full support for AISC 360 and the MBMA Design Guide, bringing the same level of precision and reliability to projects designed under American standards.
