Model creation by in-built scripting environment – Descript

As most scripting languages, Descript can be used to perform a sequence of actions unattended within a software, which can be defined beforehand, thus saving time.
Descript can be useful for parametric work, where certain parameters govern the creation or analysis of a model. Parameters in the script can be changed for different script runs in order to explore the range of possibilities, to find an optimal solution, etc..

Model optimization by in-built scripting environment

Optimizing structural models is never a simple task—it demands well-defined criteria and a purposeful, iterative algorithm. One common approach is cross-section optimization, and for this, Consteel provides practical solutions through easily accessible and user-friendly Descript scripts. What’s more, these scripts can also be utilized within the Grasshopper environment thanks to Pangolin.

Automatic generation of meteorological loads

In Consteel, extensive tools are implemented in order to assist you to define the meteorological loads required to be used for structural design by the Eurocode. Wind, snow and exceptional snow loads are automatically generated on load transfer surfaces in most of the cases defined in the code and also can be applied partially in more special situations. Modification of the generated loads and controlling the regeneration by the user is also possible.

The main task of the structural engineers was to carry out the design of a support structure for a new slide track. Truss configurator – Advanced

According to eave height, truss span, roof slopes, rafter height and an approximate purlin spacing the script generates a truss on two columns using cross sections from the section bank, with node loads acting on it. The script is capable to generate more than 100 configuration for a specific span, eave height and purlin spacing. The variations can be combined according to the truss type (N, K, K+T, K+2T), post orientation (perpendicular or vertical), chord orientation (perpendicular or horizontal), and the usage of a bottom chord end beam.

3D hall with tapered frames

This script creates a 3D hall with tapered frames built up from welded I sections. Additionally, load transfer surfaces for the frames, roof and wall purlins, supports and some loads are also created. The main input parameters can be controlled through an input dialogue after the start of the script: span, frame distance, column height, top height, number of frames. Section parameters and the point of insertion can also be controlled through the script code. Current version: 1.1
